Care and it will last.

How to care for your M.J. Cooper.

Fur Felt - Most fur felt hats can confidently be worn in light to moderate rain without fear of the material or shape being damaged. Constant wear in heavy rain will cause the hat to distort and potentially shrink over time. Let your hat dry naturally, away from any heat source, while resting on its crown. If you would prefer to treat your hat with water-proofing spray, make sure to patch test first.
To remove any light marks and/or dust, brush anticlockwise with a soft-bristle brush.
Be mindful not to eve leave your hat in extreme heat conditions, next to a heater, in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, as this will cause leather sweatbands to shrink or warp.

Leather - Wipe over with a damp cloth if soiled, or dust can simply be brushed off with a soft bristle brush. To keep leather detailing soft and subtle, avoid leaving it in extreme heat (e.g. on a car dashboard). Naturally, leather will show natural variations, which are not flaws and have been intentionally selected as part of the story of the design.

Ribbon & Fabrication - Almost all ribbon and fabric decorations/accents are sourced vintage. Therefore, please be mindful to care for your hat by regularly dusting and keeping out of direct sunlight to avoid fabric fading.

Storage - To maintain the shape and integrity of your hat, it will need to be stored either upside down (on its crown) on a flat, even surface; or on a hatstand or wall mounted hook. This ensures that the shape doesn’t distort.
If you’re the type to store your hats out of site, M.J. Cooper Hats recommends a structured box with acid-free paper packed to support the brim and crown so that your hats shape is maintained in storage. Before placing the lid on the box, place in some silica packs* and mothballs. These will work to de-humidify the box and reduce the risk of nasty surprises the next time you go to wear it. * Silica packs are the little packets that come in shoe boxes – they’re handy to keep!
